Message from Arthur Malo-e-lelei and greetings from the Friendly Islands of Tonga, my name is Arthur Budvietas and I am the office manager of Kramer Group’s office in Tonga. My tropical island sojourn began in February 2004, arriving in Tonga with over 12 years of experience in structural engineering, project management and coastal engineering. Although having been based in both Canada and New Zealand, my design experience had covered buildings in Canada, New Zealand, Australia the USA, Cook Islands and Tuvalu, with projects ranging from simple residential buildings to commercial warehouses to 10 story buildings. While based in Canada I was involved in applied research in coastal structures and processes. In addition to physical modeling projects optimizing breakwaters wharves and jetties for new projects in South America, the Caribbean and Russia, I was also involved in research that has generated a number of technical papers on wave overtopping and loadings of caisson type structures. The Kramer Group Tonga office is located 10 minutes walk from the center of Tonga’s Capital Nuku’alofa. Our office is located in the TMF Building Complex for which this office was the civil/structural engineering designers. Keeping in touch, and up to date in the Pacific can be difficult at times, but with all our offices being computerized, email contact and the use of internet instant messaging keeps our offices in contact, and this ability allows us to use the best skills of the group as needed on any project.
